The Summer Youth Employment Program is no longer accepting applicants for Marion County.

New Summer Youth Program
Workforce Connection is proud to announce the 2009 Youth Connections Summer Youth Employment Program! The Summer Youth Employment Program offers 450 youth ages 17 through 24 that resides in Marion, Citrus, and Levy Counties an opportunity to learn and intern with private industry employers, government agencies, hospitals, summer camps, non-profit, small businesses, law firms, and museums for six weeks during the summer.

National Emergency Grant
Workforce Connection was recently awarded an $860,000 National Emergency Grant through the U.S. Department of Labor. This is in addition to a $200,000 Florida Rapid Response Grant issued this fall. Both grants focus on providing employment-related assistance to dislocated workers whose jobs have been impacted by the downturn in the region’s housing marketing.

Former employees from the following 12 manufacturing companies may be eligible for NEG grant assistance. The companies include Closetmaid, Emergency One, Fluid Routing Systems (Dayco), American Panel, Golden Flake, Hamilton Products, Homette Corporation (Skyline), Masco (Merillat ), Monterey Boats, Proline Boats, Seminole Foods, and Universal Forest Products. The NEG grant provides training scholarships for qualified job candidates, relocation assistance and support services.

Welcome to Workforce Connection

Workforce Connection is the local, business-led organization that plans and coordinates quality employment and training services for businesses and individual career seekers in Citrus, Levy and Marion Counties of Florida. The workforce board sets policy and directs expenditures of more than $6 million in funds that underwrite services provided through the Workforce Connection offices.

Approximately 1,500 businesses and 30,000 career seekers receive services through the Workforce Connection each year. Services include professional and technical recruitment, training, job fairs and financial incentives.
